About Us

The Genesis

The Genesis

TABIY MANJONG was Shufai (Chief) of the Ntseni village from 1954 to 1978. His rule was characterized by enormous socio-cultural and economic development in the fields of art and culture. His love for his people and his promotion of tradition, culture, and art for the social well-being of the entire village gave birth to the first-ever local art and cultural proliferation in the village.

His actions encouraged artists to expose their artisan work and craft, helping them establish their talent and creativity both in and out of the village.

During his 24 years of reign, you could witness a variety of designs and styles in tribal and contemporary art. This attracted many visitors from near and far, who came to buy and learn about the unique artistic potential of the people of Ntseni, view famous pieces, or gain inspiration from the cultural heritage of Nso.

TABIY MANJONG embarked on preserving the cultural heritage, origin, and history, emphasizing the cultural symbols and significance of works of art. The educational perspective has been passed down from father to son.

Meet The Founder

NGALIM OSBERT MANJONG ( Oosbi ) is a private art collector, art promoter, artist, peot, and photographer. Haven grew up in a cultural and artistic environment, with his father being a fervent traditionalist and devoted member of the Nwerong, a sacred traditional society. His profound interest and love of the Nso tradition of art and culture made him to pursue his dream of being an artist and African art collector. In 2022, he was officially recognized by the Minister of Arts and Culture with the Artist Certificate registration No: 003/AA/R/F.32/DRAC-O/DDAC-NOU and Art Collector's Certificate registration No: 004/ACO/R/F.32/DRAC-O/DDAC-NOU. As the natural successor of his father, NGALIM TUKOV GERALD and TABIY MANJONG, his grandfather and following in their footsteps, he was captivated in how the blend of culture and art have impacted the lives of people and the role there play in the African society. He focused his attention and research on how art and culture are fast becoming a force of life and religion. By the age of seven, he was amazed by the skills and activities of making art objects by hand for practical or decorative use. The tribal and contemporary concepts conceived and produced by the visual art and material culture of our indigenous people. The colorful display of the Toghu or Atoghu and the way there are hand woven. He was fascinated by the energy procured from ethnographic art, in the mixtures of ceremonial or religious beliefs rooted in the cultural context of the artists who made them. The cultural heritage of the North West people of Cameroon and the Nso people in particular showcase the origin, history and tradition of art nurtured his love to become an art collector and artist. At the age of ten, he collected his first art object. The need to teach, bring awareness and exchange cultural experiences of art with other artists, regions and countries motivated him to become an ambassador of African art.

A passionate Team

Africa is the heart of tribal and contemporary art, showcasing a rich variety of forms, shapes, sizes, and designs. These include wood carvings, masks, sculptures, stone carvings, fiber works, ceramics, furniture, jewelry, beaded creations, metalworks, basketry, textiles, musical instruments, and weapons.

Culture and art are deeply interconnected, often rooted in rural settings. Art reflects the way of life of a specific people, serving as a medium to connect with ancestors or to represent their perception of God. It represents African ancestral origins of authority and metaphysical values, which are deeply rooted in the continent's history of animism. Art has also played a pivotal role in shaping Africa's social and political landscapes.

The African tribal and contemporary art market is enriched by the beauty and intricacy of its artworks. A diverse array of artists and styles contributes to the discovery of new talent. At MANJONG COLLECTIONS, our goal is to preserve cultural identity, encourage artists to express themselves through their craft, foster creativity, promote cultural awareness, and empower artists to achieve economic growth and innovation.

In recent years, we have proudly collaborated with art galleries, collectors, auction houses, and museums both nationally and internationally.
